Simply put, a Tariff code is a tax on imports or exports between countries or states.
The Harmonized Tariff Schedule or HS Tariff, known internationally as the Harmonized System is a list of all of the classification codes for goods that are being imported or exported. The Harmonized Tariff Schedule classifies a good based on its name, use, and/or the material used in its construction and assigns it a ten-digit classification code number, and there are over 17,000 unique classification code numbers.
Each country has it's own Tariff Schedule and the 2 main countries that BorderBuddy deals with are USA and Canada. Here are links to the HS Codes for the USA and for Canada. It's important to note that the tariff schedule is not identical for the USA and Canada. The first 6 digits are normally the same, and the last 4 can differ - for the same item into a different country.
BorderBuddy can help you take your products and assign the proper HS Classification to ensure the lowest possible duty and tax rates. You may be surprised to learn that the same item can be classified in different ways if you have detailed knowledge of that item and the category it should be classified in to receive a lower duty rate from certain countries.
